profpixcopyWriters In The Storm is pleased to welcome Tara Lain back (you can see her previous post Attack of the Blog here). Pour yourself a cold drink (you’ll need it) and get ready to learn a thing or two about spicing up those love scenes.

Hi everyone–

I’m delighted to be back at Writers in the Storm. The ladies asked me if I would write about building heat in a love scene. Why would they choose this topic for me?  Aha! Because I’m a writer of erotic romance! Good erotic romances are certainly famous for their love scenes. Want to know why? That’s my topic.

The main way that an erotic romance differs from a traditional romance is — the erotic romance is NOT so much about sex.

Not what you expected? Think about it. In most traditional romances, one of the main plot points is “will they…

MY CHOICE FOR FRIDAY NIGHT :-)

I promised to return and share my choice. I took Susan’s advice and continued with Lisa and Collin. No, I still didn’t finish it. I haven’t finished Stolen Secrets either. Well I did once but then I began to edit and revise and realized I had BIG FAT plot holes in it. The more I tried to fix them the worse it got. I know how I want the story to go and how it ends. But I made a fresh start a few months back and began to feel like I was falling into a trap or a black hole. Sort of spinning my wheels.

I enjoy using this website http://750words.com/ to write on. I keeps me on track and pushing. By the time I reach the 750 words I’m usually rocking into the story. But the next day I find myself lost and unsure where I left the characters and how to begin. This site tracks how many breaks over three minutes, yes 3 minutes, that you take. My breaks tend to be long ones sometimes. Usually when I sign into the site and start to write is when I go oh darn where was I yesterday.

This month I am going to try and focus on remembering where I was when I quit by revisiting the writing before I begin. Maybe the words will flow more evenly. The other option would be to keep writing on a new day. There are two loops I report to at the end of the day. Both of these are yahoo groups that are a part of the Writing GIAM site. GIAM stands for GOALS INSPIRATION AMITY MOTIVATION. Thanks to this group I managed to stay on track with writing for an entire year. In fact year two is into 167 days now. That is five thirty day months and seventeen days. It means it is that much closer to another year of writing complete. Now to complete a manuscript and submit somewhere is supposed to be occurring in there somewhere. Here’s hoping I can find that by 19 March 2013.

What To Do After Finishing A Challenge

Well what do we write today? Do I keep going with my Camp NaNoWriMo story or do I return to Stolen Secrets? With the word count for Camp NaNoWriMo completed  a day early and no, the story isn’t finished. Stolen Secrets hovered on hold for August. One minor detail August isn’t over yet. Another choice is do I take the 750 Words Challenge https://750words.com/

or work on my own. This site has helped me but truth be known when I have a day where I’m editing working in hours not words how can I keep up with this site’s requirement. Then again NaNoWriMo arrives in November and I have had a glimmer of an idea for a story to write then. The fun of NaNo is when I’m working on something new and I let the story run wild. But of course eventually I have to see if it is a viable idea.

This BLOG doesn’t count for my 100 x 100 word count either. It might count on the site but not for writing purposes.

That means either get busy with Stolen Secrets or write some more words on the Camp NaNoWriMo nicknamed Collin and Lisa for the two main characters.

Still working here and debating. The time is 8:45 p.m. Central Daylight Time. Going to post this and see who wins the toss of words.

Good luck with your writing wherever you are and whatever you are doing. The 50,210 words are sitting there waiting for more or I can see where editing can go on Stolen Secrets. I willlet y’all know my decision tomorrow. Now to get busy on my chosen task. 😉

Milestones in Writing

I hit a milestone on Sunday, 19 March 2012. I completed a year’s worth of writing everyday for 365 days. Through fights and tears with my sister, caring for Jim, my seriously ill husband, even through his death I wrote. I wrote that night, I wrote the night of his service and burial. No matter if I had to stay awake and write after midnight at least 100 words so I could count it for the next day. If I had to stop at McDonald’s for free Wi-Fi, no matter what I found myself hooked. Hooked on making that word count of at least 100 words or that minimum of 30 minutes of editing.

No it didn’t happen straight from day one. As the leader of our group says Day One is  a good day. I had many day ones from 2010 when I first joined the yahoo loop. I found excuses like work and no time. Then suddenly I made it. I hit day 100. And in the mail came a pretty certificate for that accomplishment. Next it was the 200 day mark wow another certificate. When I made 300 days I received another certificate. That was not consecutive yet. I made the 200 mark and fell off the writing wagon. Jim developed bacterial pneumonia  went into the hospital and I dropped the writing day. Started it again then had to return to East Texas from Fort Hood to do tax returns. Jim was still in the hospital with pneumonia. I never thought to stop and write. I was terrified something would happen before I could return.

The next day Sunday 20 March 2011 was day 1 again. But guess what? I kept marching along 100 words or more at a time. I would drag up the stairs at my sister’s house stating I have to write my 100 words. All I wanted was the bed to fall asleep but first those words. Habit became stronger and stronger. Soon I had another 100 days, 200 days, then the 300 mark on Friday 13 Jan 2012. Excitement grew inside me. I only had 65 more days count them 65 until I would make my year. No matter what I would make them. If it took McDonald’s, Starbucks, or wherever for Wi-Fi or at one time I opened a new word document and wrote. Because I use Drop Box an online storage for my writing, it creates duplicate copies if you write in your document off line. To avoid the confusion to my tiny brain I open a new document and write. It doesn’t matter if it was on the same WIP or a new idea. Oh the loop has things that don’t count for the 100 words. If you want go to WritingGIAM_100x100@yahoogroups.com ask to be a member come join our fun. Blogs and homework unless it involves writing on your WIP don’t count. Journaling doesn’t count either.

This simple process not unlike walking, which I sometimes don’t manage that so well either, is a one foot or one word in front of the other. Write 100 words today, write another 100 tomorrow soon the days add into 100 days. Oh you missed a day? Day One as Jo Anne, the moderator says, is a good day. So go on have a good day one and come join our fun at: WritingGIAM_100x100@yahoogroups.com

Hey I just finished my first Blog. I always wondered what I could possibly be able to Blog about now I know. Day one for me on Blogging was a good one. Now let’s see when what is next.
